Growing with natural enemies

In Onder Glas on 29 August 2024, Dico Bac describes our search for biological crop protection methods. The aim is a workable balance between insect pests and their natural enemies.

From controlling pests to supporting a balance

Problems with scale insects prompted us to explore other solutions together with fellow growers and a biologist. After years of trials, we found natural enemies suited to our crop.

The goal is to establish populations that can sustain themselves in the greenhouse. This takes patience and close observation of what is happening among the plants.

Continuing to learn

The change also brought new challenges. In the interview, Dico stresses that flower quality and economically viable production remain essential. Biological crop protection needs a tailored approach.
