History
From vegetables to large-flowered Cymbidium
The history of Bac Orchids is a story of gradual specialisation. What began as a small vegetable nursery became a family business devoted entirely to large-flowered cut Cymbidium.
1965 — Adri Bac starts with vegetables
Adri Bac begins on 0.3 hectares with lettuce and cucumbers, selling his produce through the auction.
1970s — cut flowers join the nursery
The first cut flowers appear alongside vegetables, including anthurium.
1980s — the first orchids
Vegetable production gives way to orchids. Cymbidium and anthurium together provide flowering products at different times of the year.
2000 — second generation and expansion
The company continues as Gebroeders Bac and adds a new location at Herenweg 50. Dico and Gert-Jan carry the family business forward.
2007–2008 — further growth
The locations at Herenweg 43–41 are added, creating more room for Cymbidium.
2016 — full focus on Cymbidium
Anthurium production ends. Under the name Bac Orchids BV, the nursery focuses completely on strong, large-flowered Cymbidium varieties with clear colours.
Today — 5.6 hectares and more than 100 varieties
Across three locations we grow for the international market. The assortment is available from September to June and can be packed to suit export requirements.
Showing the art of nature is the thread running through our work: making selection, colour, craftsmanship and nature visible.
